MPNTX Lead Fundraiser: Bini Madrigal

Mabuhay! I am Lakambini Donor Madrigal. Friends and family call me Bini. I am the third of the nine children of the late Jose and Marcionila Donor of Cobangan, Zambales. I attended elementary school and high school in Pasay City, Philippines. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education at the Philippine Normal College in 1961. I passed the Civil Service Exam which qualified me to teach public school . I taught in the elementary grade school for six years.

At 27, I immigrated to the United States. During my employment at the Continental Insurance Company in Dallas, I met Eleno. In 1973, we married at the Virgin de Guadalupe Cathedral on Ross Avenue. In December of last year we celebrated our 35th wedding anniversary. My husband holds a degree from the University of North Texas. He retired from the City of Dallas Water Utilities. We are blessed with two wonderful sons. My older, Chris, is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin and he is now in real estate business in the DFW Area. My younger, Andy, is a Texas State alumni. He works for Andrew's Distributing in Dallas.

I am presently working at Dillard's where I have vested nineteen years of service. I take pride in being a recipient ,for 15 years in a row, of the company's Outstanding Pacesetter Awards. Aside from customer service in retail, I also enjoy traveling and ballroom dancing. Ballroom dancing has become a passion for me. My favorite dance is Salsa Merengue.

In 2000, I had the opportunity to take my sons on a thirty day visit to the Philippines. In many ways our country has become as technologically advanced as the United States, but still remains a Third World country in some regards. I think the trip taught my sons two valuable lessons which they keep to this day: (1) Always remember your family's heritage and (2) Always be humble and gracious for what you have especially when it comes to things we take for granted such as our education and some other privileges and conveniences.

I was introduced to PCCI By Maria Realoda. I am one of the Lead Fund Raisers of the Mrs. Philippines of North Texas Charity Festival. My beneficiary is Bantay Bata 163, which is a child welfare program of ABS-CBN Foundation that not only rescues and rehabilitates sick and abused children, but also provides shelter, therapy and quality home care for these children until they can be reunited with their families of referred to proper child-caring agencies. BB163 gives emphasis on the family through the following services:training and advocacy on child abuse prevention, rehabilitation of families in crisis, educational scholarships, livelihood, community outreach and medical and dental missions. I hope to use PCCI as a platform to reach out to these children in our country.
